About Hart’s Hearth & Homestead

Hart’s Hearth & Homestead® was founded in 1978 by Alan Hart — better known to many as the “Chimney Cricket.” What began as a chimney-sweep and hearth business has grown over nearly five decades into a family-owned company focused on practical, high-quality solutions for homesteading and outdoor living.

Our online presence started in 2001, and in 2003 we formally became Hart’s Hearth Inc. From the beginning, Alan (now affectionately called Aslan) held a clear vision of self-sufficiency and durable, well-made products that people could rely on. Today the company remains under the ownership and daily leadership of the Hart family.

While our roots are in the hearth industry, we have steadily expanded into manufacturing our own products — most notably a growing line of propane tank valve safety plugs, dust caps, and protective accessories designed for outdoor use with gas grills, patio heaters, fire pits, RVs, generators, and other LP appliances. These items are made in Eastern North Carolina and reflect the same practical standards we have always valued: durability, thoughtful design, and real-world usefulness.

At Hart’s Hearth & Homestead we don’t just sell products — we live the lifestyle. Whether you are maintaining a homestead, preparing for outdoor cooking and heating, or simply looking for reliable gear that lasts, our goal is to offer solutions that support independent, capable living.

We don’t just sell it. We live it.
Welcome to Hart’s Hearth & Homestead.

🍂 As the cooler weather settles in, many of us are spending more time outdoors with family, friends, and good food.

At Hart’s Hearth & Homestead, we believe the best outdoor seasons are the ones you’re properly prepared for. Whether you’re firing up the gas grill, gathering around a patio heater or fire pit, or simply keeping your propane tanks ready for whatever the season brings, the small details matter.

That’s why we manufacture a growing line of propane tank valve safety plugs, dust caps, and protective accessories right here in Eastern North Carolina. These simple but essential items help protect your tanks from dirt, debris, and insects so they’re ready when you need them — for grilling, outdoor heating, RVs, generators, and everyday homestead use.

Practical. Durable. Made to last.

We don’t just sell it. We live it.
